If you also purchase a nice quality chalk (Crayola Anti-dust chalk is inexpensive and works just fine) and prime the board with chalk when you first receive it (instructions are included with the board,) this chalkboard will perform as well as any chalkboard installed in school classrooms. At first I was concerned that porcelain would not provide a quality writing surface, but after some research it appears that many school grade chalkboards are now made of porcelain. This one works great. No chalk marks that are impossible to erase (again, quality chalk helps with that,) smooth writing surface so chalk marks are sharp and dense, and it's easy to erase and clean. The first chalkboard I ordered arrived with a large tear in the box and a gouge in the metal frame. I ordered this product directly from Amazon, and that made exchanging it very easy, although it was frustrating to have to wait another week for the replacement to arrive. The box on the second chalkboard was also damaged, but the product itself was in perfect condition. Chalk erases easily with a microfiber cloth; an eraser leaves smears unless you go over the same area repeatedly. I concur with the previous reviewer that the metal tray is too narrow to hold an eraser. I use a 3M Command hook next to the board to hang my microfiber cloth. |
